What Is IRIS
IRIS is an advanced ultrasonic method for non-destructive testing of pipes and tubes.
It is suitable for both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Equipment We Use
How IRIS Works:
Water-Flooded Tubes:
- An IRIS probe is inserted into a tube filled with water.
Ultrasonic Pulse Generation:
- The probe’s transducer emits ultrasonic pulses parallel to the tube’s axis.
Rotating Mirror:
- A mirror, rotated by a turbine, directs pulses into the tube wall.
Reflection Analysis:
- Pulses reflect off the inner and outer walls.
- The time-of-flight difference reveals wall thickness.
Helical Scan Path:
- The probe’s withdrawal creates a spiral scan, ensuring complete coverage.
Advantages of Choosing IRIS
Benefits of IRIS Testing:
Material Compatibility:
- Effective for various materials.
Defect Detection:
- Identifies corrosion, pitting, and wall loss.
Measurement Accuracy:
- Provides precise wall thickness measurements.
Defect Sensitivity:
- Sensitive to both internal and external defects.
Defect Localization:
- Pinpoints defect positions in relation to tube length.
Complete Coverage:
- Achieves 100% inspection coverage.
Data Storage:
- Allows for results data storage.
Inspection Flexibility:
- Serves as a backup to other inspection methods.
