FMPI

What Is FMPI

Fluorescent Magnetic Particle Inspection (FMPI) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique used to detect surface and subsurface defects in metallic materials. It complements traditional magnetic particle testing by utilizing fluorescent particles coated with a special dye.

How Does FMPI Work

FMPI process consist:

1. Particle Application:

  • Magnetic particles coated with a fluorescent dye are applied to the surface of the material being tested.
  • These particles are attracted to areas of magnetic flux leakage caused by defects (such as cracks, voids, or other irregularities).

2. Illumination with UV Light:

  • Ultraviolet (UV) light is directed onto the surface.
  • The fluorescent particles emit visible light when illuminated by UV light, making them visible to the inspector.

3. Accurate Detection:

  • The accumulated fluorescent particles reveal the locations of defects.
  • Inspectors can easily identify and measure surface irregularities or flaws.

    FMPI Application

FMPI is highly effective and widely used in various industries, including:

    • Aerospace
    • Automotive
    • Manufacturing

    Advantages of Choosing FMPI

    Materials Tested;

FMPI is commonly employed to detect:

    • Cracks
    • Voids
    • Other surface irregularities in materials such as:
      - Steel
      - Iron
      - Other ferromagnetic alloys
